Salta: Spatial Data Infrastructure
IDEMSA (Spatial Data Infrastructure of the Municipality of Salta) was developed with the aim of providing truthful, reliable, and accessible geospatial information through web platforms, promoting transparency and efficiency in public management. Since 2020, work has been carried out on its infrastructure and architecture using open-source software for the management and visualization of cartographic data. Platforms such as the IDEMSA Viewer, an interactive map portal, and WMS/WFS services for GIS data consumption have been implemented. The system includes 182 thematic layers, two spatial databases, and a high-resolution satellite image mosaic. The available information covers topics such as tax zoning, management of public and private works, road safety, urban forestry, and climate action, among others.
IDEMSA has been key in administrative modernization, optimizing processes and promoting interoperability between municipal areas. Additionally, it enables citizen participation by offering open and accessible data. Furthermore, it integrates the Board of Directors of IDERA, as a representative of Local Governments, and participates in two working groups. Locally, it is part of the Ad-hoc Technical Commission of the City Council as a technical advisor and faces the challenge of strengthening institutional ties with organizations such as CONAE, NGOs, and local institutions like COPAIPA, CAS, UNSA, UCASAL, in order to strengthen citizen participation.
The IDEMSA experience demonstrates its potential as a strategic tool for data-driven decision-making, consolidating more efficient, transparent, and accessible municipal management.
