General Assembly of the OIDP 2026

About this process
The OIDP General Assembly is one of the network's key annual governance moments, bringing together representatives of member local and regional governments to review the network's activities and discuss its priorities and work programme for the coming year. It is held each year as part of the Annual Conference and is chaired by the Mayor of the host city, who serves as OIDP President, together with the Co-Presidencies and the General Secretariat. All members of the network are invited to participate, including local and regional governments, partner organizations, and individual collaborators.
We invite all members to actively contribute to this process. An online preparatory meeting will be held on 15 September, followed by the OIDP General Assembly in Kraków on 23 September.
Contributions to the OIDP Work Plan 2027
The OIDP Work Plan defines the network's priorities, activities, and strategic initiatives for the year ahead. As part of the preparations for the 2027 programme, all members are invited to contribute ideas, proposals, and initiatives that reflect emerging challenges, local needs, and opportunities to strengthen participatory democracy worldwide. This collaborative process ensures that the Work Plan is shaped by the experience and expertise of the network's members.
Contributions may include proposals for thematic priorities, capacity-building activities, publications, international cooperation, advocacy initiatives, conferences, or other actions aligned with the OIDP mission. Inputs received will be discussed during the preparatory process and considered by the Steering Committee and the General Assembly in the development of the 2027 Work Plan.
Become Part of the Leadership of Our Network!
The International Observatory on Participatory Democracy (OIDP) invites its members to play a more active role in the governance and strategic direction of the network. As part of the 2026 General Assembly, members are invited to express their interest in joining one of the OIDP leadership bodies, helping to shape the future of the network and strengthen participatory democracy at the global level. Applications should be submitted to the Technical Secretariat (oidp@uclg.org) before 6 September 2026.
Members may join the network's leadership in different ways: as Promoter Members, through the creation of Regional Offices, by contributing to the Advisory Committee, participating in the Youth Council, or joining the new Gender and Diversity Advisory Committee. These bodies provide opportunities to contribute expertise, foster regional cooperation, promote inclusive governance, and guide the implementation of the OIDP's strategic priorities.
