Jovem Autarca (The young mayor) (Santa Maria de Feira)

The Young Mayor is a project aimed at young people between 11 and 17 years of age, its main objective is to promote active citizenship behaviours, seeking to value the participation of young people on a basis of Structured Dialogue (SD) between peers and the different agents with responsibility in youth matters.

The aim of this project is for young people to play the role of spokesperson of their peers and are co-responsible for the management of a budget which is allocated to them, seeking to materialise the projects they have idealised, in a logic of dialogue and sustainability.

The Young Mayor aims to train young people in communication skills, interpersonal relations, decision-making, negotiation and leadership.

The implementation of the project takes place in a context of non-formal education - this is understood by the project as a process of social learning, of learning among peers, learner-centred, through activities that take place outside the formal education system.
