2023 Award "Best Practice in Citizen Participation"
17th Edition
Paredes: Presidência Participativa / Participative Mayor’s Office
The participatory presidencies are an initiative of proximity and dialogue with the citizens.
It is carried out in the 18 parishes of the municipality and aims to diagnose problems, needs, and identify solutions involving the population in strategic issues of greater importance for the parishes.
The working day, lasting one day, begins with several visits to the parish (works in progress, schools, associations) and ends with a session, where the living forces of the parish in question and the population in general are invited.
Parallel to this initiative, the Municipality is currently preparing a new participation action in the area of health.
Taking into account the transfer of competences in the area of health to municipalities, we are developing a pilot project in order to apply it to family health units in order to evaluate results and collect contributions from our biggest customers, our Citizens.
The implementation of this new project aims at listening to and integrating the voices of civil society in the following areas:
• Identification of available responses, unsatisfied needs and existing interlocutors in the territory who can make a decisive contribution;
• Promoting the involvement and dynamism of partners who can add value and demonstrate innovative ways of achieving the objectives;
• Measurement of progress, with follow-up and monitoring of results, incorporating adjustments and improvements in planned planning in order to integrate the best practices leading to the expected results.
In fact, it is a mutual commitment between the various agents, above all of a technical nature, public, private and social, with the achievement of a common objective: the promotion of a healthier and more participatory community with regard to individual and social health.
