Rionegro: Community and environmental strengthening for the conservation of ecosystems in rural areas of the municipality
The Service Exchange Program (PRISER in Spanish) is a methodology of the Environmental Corporation, Cornare, that seeks to strengthen the work with the community based on participation, agreement, prioritization and community benefit, allowing the communities to develop activities aimed at the management and care of natural resources and to be managers of their own Environmental Development to facilitate the implementation of community Environmental Education Projects.
The main characteristic of this project is to seek the empowerment of rural communities and their participation in the protection of the ecosystem, since the need was identified for activities such as cleaning streams to protect water resources, creating agro-ecological gardens to promote organic food production, Implementing educational actions in the environmental area such as workshops, training, and conferences, eradicating the invasive plant known as "ojo de poeta" to avoid affecting other species, and isolating properties to protect natural water sources in the aqueduct intakes.
The definition of the type and quantity of projects to be executed in each of the villages was defined in workshops held by officials of the mayor's office in each of the villages with the participation of the inhabitants, who were in charge of prioritizing the interventions.
Subsequently, the project formulators of the Mayor's Office, together with the professionals of the environmental area, were in charge of elaborating each of the proposals according to Cornare's requirements, in the entity's platform.
According to Cornare's requests and in permanent communication with the presidents of the Community Action Boards, the necessary adjustments have been made to achieve the approval of the 38 projects presented.
