2023 Award "Best Practice in Citizen Participation"
17th Edition
Canton of Geneva : The 3DD-a space for dialogue, A center of resources and expertise on civic participation and cooperation
Since 2018, 3DD - espace de concertation has been a third place dedicated to the city of tomorrow and participatory and cooperative approaches in Geneva.
Run by the citizen participation department of the Office d'urbanisme de l'Etat de Genève (canton), 3DD has developed since 2019 as a resource and skills center for citizen participation and inter-actor cooperation offered to local players. This project unfolds in the spirit of a learning network, to support everyone's actions as well as the ecological transition of Geneva's territories.
The aim of 3DD is to provide resources and encourage collective reflection on these issues. Ultimately, the aim of the project is to enhance the quality and promotion of participative approaches, in the service of the city and its territories, in the context of the ecological transition.
The audience for the resource center is primarily professionals who are setting up or wish to set up participatory approaches. It is also aimed at other local players and enlightened amateurs interested in these subjects. The 3DD network brings together specialists with extensive experience in the field, as well as novices and the curious. These may be project managers working in cantonal or municipal administrations, who wish to give a voice to the population and stakeholders concerned in the development phase of their project, or urban planners or architects working in design offices who are involved in organizing consultations with residents for the renewal of a neighborhood, as part of mandates awarded to them by public authorities or other stakeholders.
The 3DD is built around three axes:
- Providing a place for action and experimentation (axis 1)
- Pooling and even creating resources to reinforce skills (axis 2)
- Networking to encourage cooperation and mutual learning (axis 3).
The 3DD is part of the "commons" philosophy, and the methodological resources it offers, whether made available by the 3DD team or members of its network, are public and accessible to all.
