Province of Manabí: Strengthening Spaces for the Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence Through Women's Community Support Networks
The project "Phase Two: Strengthening Spaces for the Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence Through Women's Community Support Networks" aims for a comprehensive transformation of the violence faced by women. The phase consisted of:
1. Mechanisms for the response and care of gender-based violence through 14 comprehensive care centers: Mechanisms to support women victims of violence are strengthened by offering psychological, legal, social, and medical assistance. The centers provide safe spaces and specific protocols, with a multidisciplinary team that creates action plans to guarantee the restoration of rights. Additionally, victims are accompanied with legal advice and support for their economic autonomy through training and entrepreneurship. Follow-up is done under a protocol that respects the confidentiality and autonomy of the victim.
2. Women's community support networks: The role of support networks is strengthened as a protective and resilience factor for women victims of violence. These networks allow integration and collaboration between women in the same community to provide support, containment, and accompaniment during the recovery process. Training is offered to these networks to activate care protocols and notify relevant institutions to ensure victims receive the necessary help. Additionally, the goal is to transform gender-based violence through the creation of protection mechanisms and a fight for equal rights.
3. Psychosocial community transformation process for the prevention of gender-based violence: A community process is implemented to promote a culture of peace and the rebuilding of harmonious relationships in the communities. This includes interventions by psychologists, group therapy, case identification, and men's forums to promote new masculinities. The aim is to break with gender stereotypes that perpetuate violence and create a change in social practices. Furthermore, the work of women within the support networks is highlighted, showing how these networks have become a model of protection and social transformation.
These actions strengthen women's economic autonomy and promote a change in violent practices, fostering equality of rights and opportunities for all.
