Büyükçekmece Municipality: Büyükçekmece's 2050 Vision

The 2050 Büyükçekmece Vision began with the question, "What kind of future can we imagine for our city?" This question sparked the involvement of all city stakeholders and scientists in finding answers. With population projections indicating that by 2050, nearly 70% of the world's population will live in urban areas, the focus shifted to using contemporary technologies to make our city more democratic and livable. The 2050 Büyükçekmece Vision Strategy Document was developed based on the expectations of the city's residents, employing innovative and proactive approaches for the short, medium, and long term, making it the first such strategy document prepared by a district municipality.

This strategy document was prepared with the contributions of academic experts, applying scientific methods in line with principles of participatory governance and transparency. The document not only reflects the future expectations of the citizens but also considers the future of all living beings sharing the urban space. It emphasizes the city's value system as the core element in designing the future.

The 2050 Vision prioritizes creating future scenarios for urban life that ensure a high quality of living. These scenarios include objectives and strategies based on scientific, technological, economic, and social developments, as well as predictions related to environmental degradation. As a result, the vision document presents goals and priorities aimed at achieving this future. The 2050 Büyükçekmece Vision has 7 main themes, 18 strategic objectives, and 46 targets, all based on scientific research and data.

This vision serves as a long-term roadmap for understanding Büyükçekmece through data and planning its future with its citizens. It is a document created with the principle of participatory democracy, enabling collective use of the city's resources and setting a course for a more sustainable, inclusive future for the community.
