Jalisco: Voter Promotion Strategy and Citizen Participation in the 2023-2024 Electoral Process
The development of the Voter Promotion Strategy and citizen participation allowed the creation of collaborative networks with various sectors of society, such as the academic, business, and civil society sectors. Relationships were established with institutions like the National System for Comprehensive Family Development (DIF), the UNESCO Youth Chair, and the National Electoral Institute (INE).
The efforts made helped identify areas of opportunity, leading to adjustments in some programs to achieve the set objectives and obtain better results. All these voter promotion actions established a bond with the people of Jalisco, guaranteeing spaces for reflection and informational tools to help citizens make an informed decision based on analysis, study, and deliberation of the different options when voting. Additionally, citizens got to know a more approachable and citizen-centered Institute, whose main goal is to ensure the vote and voice of the people of Jalisco. With the implementation of this strategy, the Electoral and Citizen Participation Institute of the State of Jalisco fulfilled one of its constitutional duties of promoting voting during electoral processes. It also managed to decentralize the execution of these programs throughout the state of Jalisco.
Over 40,000 Jalisco residents were directly engaged, which helped build closer connections with the community. Each activity carried out stood out for its innovation. For first-time voters, a workshop called “Let Me Tell You, My First Vote” was created, where first-time voters shared their experiences and participated in an election simulation, giving them the chance to vote and learn about electoral materials. The StandVotando was created as a platform for the university community, where electoral process information was shared through a stand-up comedy routine, showing that serious topics can also be fun and engaging. Another program was Neta Fest, a music festival whose main goal was to offer a space for recreation and reflection on the importance of voting through a universal language: music. Lastly, the Democratic Business Distinction was introduced as recognition for businesses and organizations that encouraged voting across Jalisco.
