Tounfit region: Akhamm Amazigh Association for Rural Development and Solidarity
The Akhamm Amazigh Association for Rural Development and Solidarity, based in Tounfit and Sidi Yahya Youssef in Midelt Prefecture, Drâa-Tafilalet Region, is launching an environmental awareness project aimed at preserving the region's rich natural resources, particularly the globally significant cedar tree. The region, home to Amazigh people, is ecologically diverse and faces challenges in preserving these resources. The project aims to raise awareness among mountain residents about the importance of the cedar tree and promote sustainable, environmentally friendly alternatives. It will also encourage youth to engage in eco-friendly projects and empower rural women.
The association has previously run similar projects and now plans to expand its efforts in collaboration with the Water and Forestry Administration. The project, which runs from January 5 to August 1, 2025, will include awareness campaigns, seminars, and workshops to educate residents in Tounfit and Sidi Yahya Youssef. The initiative targets a population of 25,000 people and involves community-driven efforts to protect natural resources and address climate change.
The project will use modern communication methods, including social media and audio-video meetings, to ensure widespread participation. It aims to involve the entire population, particularly youth and women, and will be evaluated based on active participation and long-term impact. The association hopes to achieve significant environmental and social improvements, fostering a transition toward sustainable practices in the region.
