Eco-Volunteers is a citizen participation initiative developed by Ataşehir Municipality to strengthen community engagement in environmental sustainability and urban environmental governance. The practice creates an inclusive platform where residents can actively contribute to identifying environmental challenges and co-developing solutions together with the municipality.

The initiative is structured around thematic working groups composed of citizen volunteers who focus on key areas affecting urban sustainability, including water and energy, waste management and recycling, sanitation, transportation, disaster preparedness, and parks and green areas. Each group regularly meets to discuss challenges, share experiences, and propose ideas that can inform municipal policies and practices.

Beyond these core working groups, the initiative has reached a broader audience through public meetings, workshops, and neighbourhood gatherings. Particular attention was given to gender-inclusive participation. In collaboration with the Ataşehir Women's Council, neighbourhood meetings were organized where women were invited to learn about environmental issues and engage in discussions on sustainable practices in their communities.

The initiative also created opportunities for dialogue between citizens and local decision-makers. Workshops and meetings brought together volunteers, municipal department directors, and the Mayor, allowing participants to exchange ideas and reflect collectively on environmental priorities for the city.

By combining citizen knowledge, institutional engagement, and thematic collaboration, Eco-Volunteers contributes to strengthening environmental awareness, encouraging civic responsibility, and embedding participatory approaches in local environmental governance in Ataşehir.
