Cergy: Walk in Cergy – The Citizen Factory Game

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

Balade à Cergy is a board game that invites players to discover the city of Cergy.

A dynamic city of 70,000 inhabitants, Cergy stands out for its great cultural diversity, with 142 nationalities represented, as well as for its emblematic places and its rich network of 350 local associations. Its population—mostly under the age of 30—and its participatory bodies actively contribute to the creation of projects that benefit the municipality and its residents.

The Balade à Cergy game was created by the Citizen Factory (Fabrique citoyenne), a participatory body of the city composed of 26 members committed to a two-year mandate. These members were randomly selected from residents of all Cergy’s neighbourhoods, members of existing participatory bodies, students, and local associations. During their first year of mandate, they were tasked with developing a project aimed at promoting Cergy’s local heritage.

After a year of work marked by several collective workshops for reflection and collaboration, the Balade à Cergy game was created, offering residents the opportunity to rediscover their city in a playful and friendly way. It is a board game in which players travel through all the neighbourhoods of Cergy while playing quiz, true/false, quick-challenge, or “did you know?” cards that ask questions and reveal the history of the city, its emblematic places, its culture, and interesting anecdotes. Balade à Cergy can be played with family or friends, from 2 to 6 players, and is suitable for ages 7 and up.

The game also allows players to form pairs, for example bringing together a parent and a child, or someone who has recently arrived in Cergy with a long-time resident. All elements of the game were designed by the members of the Citizen Factory, supported by the city’s Directorate of Citizen Participation and Communication. The game is available in all Cergy media libraries, as well as in neighbourhood centres, schools, and other local community facilities.
