Fortaleza: Training for the World of Work – Robotics

Avatar: Official proposal Official proposal

The Training for the World of Work (FMT) – Robotics project is a high-impact initiative developed by Espro in strategic partnership with Serpro, implemented between December 2024 and July 2025, focusing on transforming the life trajectories of trans, travesti, and non-binary youth in Fortaleza (CE), aged 14 to 23. The context of Fortaleza is challenging: although the city is a landmark in the struggle for trans rights, the state records high levels of violence against this group and, nationally, only 4% of trans women hold formal employment.

The project’s methodology, grounded in Seymour Papert’s constructionism, evolved to address complex innovations such as the Internet of Things (IoT), using ESP32 boards connected to Arduino IoT Cloud. The training combined technical rigor with the development of interpersonal skills and psychosocial support, aiming to overcome historical barriers to educational and productive inclusion. The process was structured in three phases: preparation (strategic planning and empathetic selection conducted by social workers), implementation (59 technical training sessions along with social development workshops), and closure with accountability and evaluation.

The results demonstrate the success of the initiative: of the 20 youth enrolled, 10 completed the course by developing complex automation projects, such as residential models controlled by voice and mobile phone. The impact was also significant in terms of personal development, with a 22% increase in participants’ self-esteem and a 14% increase in clarity about their professional future. Additionally, 100% of those who completed the program left with prepared resumes and were integrated into Espro’s Talent Bank.

The sustainability of the practice is ensured by Espro’s “social perpetual motion” model, which relies on partnerships with companies, fundraising initiatives, and internal resources to ensure scalability and continuity of actions. The project has consolidated a robust collaborative ecosystem involving Serpro as a partner and the local social assistance network (CRAS and CREAS) to identify and reach the target audience. Innovative in its approach, the project established a new paradigm by using advanced technology as a tool for citizenship, autonomy, and the overcoming of stereotypes for a historically marginalized group.
