Mogi das Cruzes: Leads Mogi- Citizenship Training
Mogi das Cruzes, São Paulo, Brazil
In January 2021, social participation was established as a principle of the new municipal management, led by Mayor Caio Cunha. With the mission of building a city with and for people, Mogi das Cruzes' social participation policy was born at the Secretariat for Planning and Strategic Management: Participa Mogi.
Faced with the participatory processes of building the city, we identified the lack of tools and knowledge to improve construction processes with the population. Guided by the perspective of social control as an instrument for strengthening democracy and citizenship, Participa Mogi's mission is to go beyond a space for listening, but to build a city with and for people. In view of this purpose, the development of citizenship is one of the pillars of action in the development of the social participation policy.
In order to contribute to the formation of an increasingly active and citizen civil society, which knows and exercises its rights and duties as a citizen in the development of the city where it lives, we implemented the first citizen training in the city of Mogi das Cruzes: Lidera Mogi.
Lidera was born with the aim of training citizens with more resources to act in an increasingly active way in the city. With a proposal of 8 meetings lasting 2 hours, we bring the executive power closer to civil society with content that addresses guiding precepts of citizenship, democracy and the practical performance of public administration. We provoke and strengthen so that citizens want to play a leading role in the transformation of their territory. In addition to the training content, Lidera Mogi initiates the formation of a network of community leaders who may be taking the first step towards developing themselves more and more as citizens who actively build their cities with public power.
In 1 year of existence of citizenship training, we carried out 42 hours of course distributed in 2 groups that trained 40 people with contents of development of their work in civil society. The training as a whole was evaluated by the participants with an average of 4.87 on a scale of 1 to 5, with the course content being evaluated as excellent by 70% of the participants. Through the evaluation tools via form and listening processes after the end of the training, 100% of the participants say they would recommend the course to others.
