Morón: Creating and Strengthening Youth Protagonism
The aim of the programme is to reclaim the public spaces that are catalysts of social conflict, giving young people a political sphere that can genuinely improve their lives. Reinforcing the values, mechanisms and procedures of discussion, debate and consensus inherent to democracy.
We seek to do this by encouraging youth group work in their territories, generating a direct, transparent and reciprocal relationship between young people and the Municipal State. By giving tools to youth organisations to respond to their demands; and that, in this way, they continue to proliferate throughout the Municipality, strengthening their commitment to the community, being able to be more present in it to identify the demands and needs that it retains, knowing that they can then be addressed through public policy. In this way, the state is redefined and revalued as a hopeful tool at the disposal of young people to improve their quality of life.
We do this by articulating with different areas and institutions, seeking to reach all subjectivities. In the health sector, the Red Voluntaria Joven promotes the active participation of young people in community initiatives that initially focused on health (in the context of the COVID 19 pandemic) and then went on to cover territorial and educational needs. The increase from 300 members to 700 is a reflection of the commitment and community solidarity of young people.
In education, work is being done to create and strengthen Student Centres, providing young people with a platform to make their voices heard and contribute to the development of inclusive school policies. The increase from 5 student centres to 35 reflects the firm will of young people to defend and promote their rights, becoming protagonists in the democratic and republican spaces provided by the municipality.
In the cultural sphere, public spaces have been democratised so that they can participate in important cultural events and activities. In turn, the neighbourhood representations seek to empower young people by encouraging civic engagement in local life for the construction of a more peaceful society.
Finally, this programme seeks to consolidate a means and not an end. A means to vindicate young people as political subjects who play a leading role in the transformation of their territory.
