2024 Award "Best Practice in Citizen Participation"
18th Edition
Province of Buenos Aires: Participatory Budgeting of the National University of General Sarmiento
The Participatory Budget of the National University of General Sarmiento (Argentina) has been implemented for more than 11 years. At the institutional/regulatory level, it has resolutions approved by the Higher Council and was incorporated into the Statute in the last university reform.
Among the objectives pursued, the following can be mentioned:
- The objectives pursued by the Participatory Budget of the UNGS are:
- To promote the democratisation of relations between the different faculties and with the entire university community.
- To promote the legitimisation of politics
- To promote the reduction of inequalities
- To improve the internal management of the institution
Throughout the 11 editions 107 projects were submitted, an average of 9.1 projects per year. Of the total number of projects submitted, some 35 projects were fully funded and 11 were partially funded.
As a risk we can affirm that thanks to the practice we have managed to: strengthen people's ties in terms of their affiliation to some of the faculties; the emergence of new actors, for example linked to disability or gender issues; the emergence of new demands from the university community.
