Cocody: From cassava processing to improving the living environment by protecting and rehabilitating the lagoon banks and green spaces
The project was presented by the “ Women Atchans Association of the 6 Villages of Cocody ”, accompanied by the Working Group of the Covenant of Mayors for Sub-Saharan Africa (CoM SSA) housed at the Local Mission of the Cocody Service Platform ( PFS-CODY), an entity of the Cocody Municipality, registered within the framework of improving the living and working conditions of the populations of the neighborhoods and villages of Cocody and protecting the environment. The main activities of these Cocody areas are the production and marketing of Attiéké and other cassava products.
Unfortunately, there are problems linked to their main activities, causing hygiene problems in their environment and living conditions, not to mention the pollution of the lagoon shoreline and the destruction of its ecosystem and mangrove forests. These two priority entities, assisted by the Cocody Technical Services Department (DST COCODY), will seek to make the transformation of manioc into local food, Attiéké, more ecological, by raising awareness and supporting one hundred . (100) young people, 60% of them women, in gardening and environmental management to improve the commune's living environment and protect the lagoon borders by burying the banks and planting mangroves in order to reconstitute the disparate mangrove forests. All this, while using sites or green spaces and the banks of coastal villages in four common pilots namely the communes of Cocody (Paris village, Blockhaus, M'Pouto, M'Badon, Akouodo), Plateau and Bingerville; as worksites schools for the said project. The PFS-CODY, through its Qualifications for Employment department, will set up 5 brigades of 20 young people in an environment where they can exercise their skills in the management of green spaces, with a view to professionalizing them.
This program is also a gateway for young people, helped by integration advisors and supervisors, ideal for an IGA project or sustainable integration into a green environment. This will undoubtedly help to beautify and protect the environmental landscape of the Cocody commune, providing a pleasant setting for the local population and making an effective contribution to the commune's socio-economic and environmental development in a context of sustainability.
