It aims to strengthen the Green Infrastructure of Posadas in collaboration with the community as part of the city's Climate Actions.

In 2024, we selected 20 neighborhood green spaces that experience high temperatures due to a lack of tree cover and exposed soil, as recorded in the Local Climate Action Plan due to their higher vulnerability to climate change. Along with the Management Coordination, we invited the Neighborhood Commissions to jointly survey the species and locations for planting, respecting the existing uses in each space.

With a weekly call schedule, we intervened in 15 neighborhood green spaces, planting 723 trees, 15 tons of substrate, and 3 tons of chips.

We held informative talks to teach how to plant and care for trees together with Neighborhood Commissions, Schools, and Sports Centers. We added chips and substrate, produced at the Municipal Green Center, to nourish the exposed soil and the base of the planted trees.

The combined interventions in soil and tree planting generate a higher survival rate for urban trees. Covering exposed soil also helps to reduce temperatures while fostering the initial development of biodiversity. Since the interventions are participatory and respect existing uses, they have helped reduce damage and theft, with a greater potential to recover green lungs in neighborhoods cared for by the community. Of the trees planted, 85% survived in the first year.

The substrate has proven to be a great ally in fertilizing, maintaining moisture, and limiting the area around planted trees against urban overgrowth. The chips promote grass development, and in 3 months, coverage has been created on exposed soils.

The Program has become a key strategy for urban forestry, with the potential to scale across the city due to the Research and Production Center, which produces a large number of seedlings ready to be planted in public spaces. By 2025, the plan will exceed 35% of neighborhood green spaces, with more climate actions in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change of Misiones. Posadas strengthens its role as the Gateway to the Missionary Jungle, along with the Province of Misiones, as the guardian of 52% of Argentina’s biodiversity.

https://posadas.gov.ar/sustentable/cerramos-el-cronograma-de-barrios-mas-verdes-2024/

Final report

https://posadas.gov.ar/sustentable/cerramos-el-cronograma-de-barrios-mas-verdes-2024/

Informe final

","fr":"
