Bordeaux: Great Citizens' Dialogue

The aim of the Great Citizens' Dialogue was to create a collective dynamic in the Bordeaux area around the question ’How can we tackle the climate emergency? Three distinct phases were proposed to the residents, students and workers of Bordeaux. The effervescence, the citizens' convention and the landing. Each of these phases had different formats and objectives, which contributed to the innovative nature of the participatory approach. 

The broad public targeted in the initial diagnostic phase was present thanks to the diversity of the formats proposed (Parliamentary Tour, Open Forum, Neighbourhood Councils, online contributions, etc.). The material gathered was used to define the mandate given to the citizens' convention. The convention worked over 6 weekends. The major citizens' dialogue alternated between the general public and the mini-public. This alternation helped to disseminate the Great Dialogue approach without losing the operational character necessary for the success of a citizen participation approach.  

Indeed, a deliverable such as the citizen's opinion of the citizens' convention enables recommendations to be shared and concrete actions to be implemented at the level of the City of Bordeaux. The content of this deliverable is now worked on by the city to improve the political actions and projects carried out by the city.
