2025 Award "Best Practice in Citizen Participation"
19th Edition
San Salvador Centro: Cultura Cuscatlán
Cultura Cuscatlán has placed the community at the center of its management model, successfully strengthening the sense of belonging and appreciation for public spaces from an early age. Through a participatory approach, the project has implemented innovative initiatives that involve people of all ages, solidifying the park as a space for learning, coexistence, and recreation.
Volunteers have been essential in this process, showcasing the commitment of both young people and adults to the beautification, maintenance, and activation of the park. These activities not only allow for the continuous improvement of the space but also inspire a model of shared responsibility that can be replicated in other public spaces.
Additionally, programs aimed at children, such as “Juega y Aprende, Tarde de Colores, and Estación de Brillos y Fantasía”, are designed to promote values such as respect, conservation, and the responsible use of urban spaces. These programs not only stimulate the comprehensive development of the children who participate but also instill in them an environmental and social awareness that will endure over time.
The community participation process is complemented by consultation and feedback activities, where park users and residents contribute their ideas and suggestions to improve the public space experience.
This model of active participation and intergenerational learning has not only consolidated Parque Cuscatlán as a benchmark in urban recovery but also lays the foundation for replicating these practices in other public spaces, building a green network of well-being where the community plays a central role in transforming its environment.
